Padthaway Engineering were engaged on the basis of our capability to complete works in extreme conditions. This project was disaggregated from the broader line project due to the extreme nature of the site in terms of water table, ground conditions, soil type and topography/access.

Scope of works to remediate all 4 x footings consistent of the client specifications.

Site specific challenges:

The tower is located in low lying ground adjacent to a dam wall
The site is periodically under water and only accessible during extended periods of low rainfall
Ground conditions are wet and soft limiting movement of machines and presenting a constant risk of bogging/sinking of tracked vehicles
Excavations immediately fill with water requiring constant pumping
Soils are predominantly acid sulfate requiring strict environmental controls
Access via unrated concrete bridge precludes transit/access of heavy equipment
The dam wall presents a steep incline hindering access of men and machines

FOOTING CONSTRUCTION

Padthaway Engineering were engaged on short notice and on the basis of our capability to complete drilling works in extreme conditions. Padthaway Engineering delivered the works on the eve of the Christmas break inside 1 x working week and with the added complexity of inclement weather and limited line outages

Site specific challenges:

The tower is located atop the Macquarie Pass escarpment in an area of high rainfall
Site entrance from Illawarra Hwy on a blind corner
Ground conditions are wet and soft limiting movement of machines and presenting a constant risk of bogging/sinking of tracked vehicles
Excavations immediately fill with water requiring constant pumping
Access track was boggy and had an incline, crest and descent
Site required localised Earthworks and pad construction

Padthaway Engineering were engaged to complete ~57 tower legs including minor and major remediation's to the new client specifications. Footings remediation's to extend life of towers by ~20 years.

Site specific challenges:

Remote locations with treacherous access tracks including erosion, steep inclines and slippery conditions
Large area (Vales Pt to Vineyard)
Ground conditions are wet and soft limiting movement of machines and presenting a constant risk of bogging/sinking of tracked vehicles
High rainfall causing excavations to fill with water requiring constant dewatering

ACCESS TRACK REMEDIATION

Padthaway Engineering were commissioned to complete multiple access track remediations. Unprecedented rainfall rendered multiple transmission tower worksites unreachable due to severe ruts, washed out areas and bogs. Existing tracks were first cleared of overgrown vegetation prior to being excavated, boxed and where required Geomesh dropped to prevent further subsidence. New tracks were then constructed to NSW RFS and National Parks and Wildlife Services specifications. Tracks were crowned and cambered with cross banks constructed to manage runoff. Works were competed within the time and budget expectations of the client.
